A Look at Traditional Veneers vs Lumineers

Posted by:

Veneers-vs-LumineersMost people don’t want to walk with discolored, crooked, or chipped teeth. In these cases, there are two easy ways to fix the problem. You’ll have the choice of getting lumineers or traditional veneers.

Veneers consist of a thin porcelain shell. This shell can easily be shaped to match your teeth perfectly. Lumineers are a type of ultra-thin veneer. They act in much the same way and offer some of the same advantages. However, there are a few differences.

Both veneers and lumineers are designed for durability. The offer just about as much strength as your natural teeth. They will last for years as long as you care for them properly.

The main difference between the two is the procedure required to put them in. In order to put a veneer in your mouth, your dentist will have to remove a lot of tooth enamel. If he doesn’t, then the veneer may not bond well enough to your teeth. This removal of enamel always has the possibility of exposing your nerve.

Lumineers are much easier to put in. They do require a little removal of tooth enamel in many cases, however, there are some cases that don’t any removal at all. Best of all, you won’t have to get any shots in order to get them put in.

One possible advantage that veneers offer over lumineers is their thinness. Since they tend to be less bulky, they offer a more natural look. However, lumineers can sometimes be made more thin than veneers, but they may break if they’re not thick enough.

Another possible disadvantage for lumineers is their translucency. If you have naturally dark teeth, then they may show their the lumineers. Something would have to be done about that in order to keep this darker color from showing through.

The main disadvantage when it comes to veneers is that the procedure is irreversible. Once the tooth enamel has been removed, there is no putting it back. Since there is little to no tooth enamel removed for lumineers, you can get them taken off if you wanted to.

However, you should know that they adhere to your natural teeth very tightly. So, it’s not exactly an easy process to remove them. It will also probably cost you a lot of money to have it done.

Speaking of cost, you will probably want to know the price comparison between veneers and lumineers. Veneers tend to cost more. However, the particular price that you’ll pay for lumineers will vary depending on the location you live in.
